Each year the community and education programs of the Garland Symphony Orchestra reach over 10,000 community members from various walks of life and socio-economic backgrounds. The Garland Symphony Orchestra is very proud of its numerous programs dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community.

Young People's Concerts

Designed to enhance school district fine arts programs, Young People's Concerts include a curriculum created to encompass standards set forth by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) syllabus. Students learn about the components of music and are presented with a live performance from a professional symphony orchestra.

Informances are community programs designed to introduce community organizations to the Garland Symphony Orchestra by presenting a short informal performance featuring one or two the Garland Symphony Orchestra musicians. If your community group would be interested in making use of this initiative please contact the symphony business office. You can also hire a professional customized ensemble or soloist for special events like corporate events, weddings, funerals, etc.

KidsNotes Program

Early exposure to music and the arts is crucial to developing the creative spark in youth. To this end the Garland Symphony Orchestra's KidsNotes program offers a one hour hands-on interactive presentation to young children where they get the opportunity to hear, see, touch, and explore different aspects of classical music and the orchestra. KidsNotes is offered at area schools, libraries, and bookstores throughout the year. Contact education@garlandsymphony.org

Conversations with Music

Conversations with Music provides participatory concerts to upper elementary students in surrounding schools, clubs, and school districts with the goal of creating interest in school arts programs as students approach middle school. A small ensemble entertains students by performing many popular music selections and classical music standards. Students experience classical repertoire from each of the four major musical periods, as well as interact with musicians to guess each of our popular music selections. Students glean information on the symphony orchestra, musical eras, how sounds is made, and have the opportunity to reflect during our Q&A session.

Conversations with Music for Retirement Communities:

The GSO provides free educational and interactive concerts to the local health-care community through our Conversations With Music program. The GSO musicians accompany a staff member to various assisted-living facilities, retirement communities, and hospitals with the goal of bringing classical music to those who may otherwise be unable to attend symphony concerts. Participants experience a live music performance featuring both classical and popular music selections. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to interact with musicians through educational program notes and dialogue about classical music, composers, repertoire, and life as a classical musician today.
