Season highlights will focus on the music of the most romantic city in the world – Paris!  Among the concert offerings will be an evening of excepts and arias from great operas set in Paris, including Puccini's La Boheme, Massenet's Manon, Charpentier's Louise, and Verdi's La Traviata!  The season will also feature such Paris- themed pieces as one of Haydn’s “Paris” symphonies, Mozart's “Paris” Symphony, Waldteufel's “Tout-Paris Waltz”, and Meyerbeer's “Overture to Les Huguenots”, to name but a few.  A special program titled On the Corner of Broadway and the Champs d'Elysees! will offer an evening of hit songs celebrating the City of Light, including “I Love Paris”, “The Last Time I Saw Paris”, “April In Paris”, and Cole Porter’s “You don’t Know Paris”, plus music from Gigi, Jaques Brel, and Le Miserables!

Mission Statement

The Garland Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble of ninety-three musicians dedicated to excellence in the performance of symphonic music and to the cultural enrichment of the dynamically growing Garland corporate and residential communities, as well as to patrons throughout Garland and adjacent cities.

Performances

Titled "High Five", the 2007-2008 Season will feature the fifth symphonies of Hayden, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Mahler, as wells as Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, and music composed by Russia's "Mighty Five."  Guest Artists will include violinist Franco Mezzena from Italy, Cliburn finalist Jan Jiracek from Germany, and guest conductor Gabor Hollerung from Hungary. From closer to home, Oklahoma City pianist Amy Cheng-Burrows and Dallas' own rising violin virtuoso Celeste Golden will also be making appearences. More info... | Contact

Performance Venue

The Patty Granville Arts Center provides two elegant proscenium theatres with seating for 720. The Main auditorium features a 55 foot fly loft with a counterweight system.  The Arts Complex also includes the Plaza Theatre which is located at 521 W. State Street on the Square in downtown Garland.  The Plaza Theatre has seating for 350.  More info...  

Musicians

The orchestra is comprised of 93 professional musicians. Over 19 different nations are represented in the musician roster and this talent is complemented with internationally renowned featured soloists. More info...  

Music Director

Robert Carter Austin is the founder of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Arlginton. A graduate of M.I.T., Cambridge University, and Stanford University, Maestro Austin has served as Music Director of Chattanooga Opera, Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, East Texas Symphony Orchestra, and the Southern Regional Opera.  His guest-conductor appearances are numerous. National credits include symphonies and operas in nine different states. Internationally Maestro Austin appeared with orchestras all over South America, Europe and Asia. He also serves as the Music Director of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Arlington.

Off the podium Maestro Austin describes himself as an avid skier, as a closet country music fan, and a notorious oenophile. Contact

Each year the education programs of the GSO reach over 8,000 students from pre-K through high school and encourage a life-long love of music and the performing arts.
